I have truly been blessed with the family that I have. I am from a traditional Filipino family and I admire my parents greatly for everything they have done in my life. My parents, Jhun and Vivian, have molded me into the man I am today and I am forever thankful for their presence, guidance, and love. I have a younger sister named Vivien who always seems to amaze me whether she knows it or not. We might not always see eye to eye but I really am proud of what she has accomplished and will continue to do as she grows older. I also have a massive extended family with amazing cousins, relatives, and family friends. Without my family, I wouldn’t know what to do. Let’s remember that blood is thicker than water!
I grew up in a Catholic family and went through the Catholic school system as well. I went to Mass on Sundays, prayed when I could, and received the Sacraments when I was told to. I was kind of in tune with my faith life all throughout high school but when I went to university, I shoved religion to the back of my priorities. It wasn’t until my second year at Ryerson that I encountered CCO and the Ryerson Catholics. At first, I was hesitant to attend the faith study but I am very glad I did. I thought I knew everything about being a Catholic but I actually didn’t know anything at all. I was lost but I didn’t even know it. The Discovery faith study really changed my perspective on God and opened my eyes. I did not know that you could have a personal relationship with God. I was taught that Jesus was this great guy who died for humanity but I was not taught that each and every one of us was called to have an ultimate relationship with him. When I realized this, that was the beginning of my new faith journey with God. Every time somebody brings up Jesus, my eyes light up and I am filled with joy. There is honestly much more to life than people think. If you put your trust in Jesus, He’ll take care of everything. All you have to say is yes and He will lead. Jesus is my favourite guy. I love Him!
